DVD Recorder HDD Not Working

Options
Hi Everyone,

I have a Pioneer DVR-LX60D and I've been getting an error message asking me to optimize the hdd for the last few weeks but every time I've tried to do this it has stopped a few minutes into the process and told me that the hdd has not been sufficiently optimized and I need to do it again. I've assumed this is because there's not enough space to optimize properly so I've been copying and deleting as much as I can when I've got time. I managed to get up to over 20 hours free on the hdd but even then it still would not optimize properly. Last night, however, as I deleted something I'd just copied the hdd remain went to 0:00 from 20:00 and despite my copying and deleting a number of other things it's not moved from zero so basically it's saying the hdd is full when it isn't at all and I can't record anything.

I phoned Pioneer and all they could suggest was to turn it off for 5 mins and then back on again but that didn't work and there's nothing on this in the manual so I'm lost. i asked on AV Forums but got no replies so I thought maybe someone on here might have some suggestions. Thanks for any help.

Regards

Michelle

    how old is it?

if the option appears in the disc setup menu, you could initialize the hard disk, any recordings would be lost. p123 of the manual

    Hi Loaner,

Thanks for the reply - I've had it for 8 months now. I've still got a lot of recordings on it and it's going to take me a while to copy them all so I'd rather not initialize the hard disk if I can help it but the option to do so hasn't appeared on the disc setup menu anyway.

I've managed to copy and delete another stack of things this evening and tried again to optimize but once again it did it for a little while and then stopped  How much free space is generally needed in order for it to optimize properly? Thanks.

    Regards

Well I've been back onto Pioneer this morning and they said they haven't heard of this issue before so they think my HDD is corrupt  probably due to the fact it couldn't optimize. They've told me to get a Pioneer service centre to look at it but I've got a ton of stuff on it I don't want to lose so it looks like I'm going to be spending my free time for a while putting it all onto discs and then I'll try a factory re-set before doing that. It's just annoying but unavoidable I suppose.
