:T An exciting day tomorrow, Mum is going into a new nursing home, the one she is in at the moment is closing down at the end of the month.
Hopefully she will settle into the new home, personally I think it is fabulous, everything is upto date and modern, a first class chef, home from home comforts, hair dressing salon and a potentially wonderful team of nurses and carers. We took her clothes, photos etc this morning so she is already set for the next chapter of her life.
I have volunteered to organise activites for residents and family and have some great plans for the future, Cruise day for the residents, Oscar Night for Families/resident ,a Summer fair etc with full support from the Nursing Home.
The great thing about the change is that many of the staff are from her old Nursing Home, so there will a lot of familiar faces at the beginning.
Expensive! Yes, but I think its well worth £600 a week to see Mum into her twilight years with nice surroundings and good care.
So she is going to be the New kid on the Block tomorrow, first resident in so a lovley bit of fuss for her tomorrow, in the evening we as a family are going to Welcome her to her new home and have a little glass of champers to celebrate.
Will let you know how she gets on.
Here's to the next chapter of life Mum xx

Awwww bless, I hope she will be very happy in her new home.
It really does sound good, and the fact that you are able to get involved with it too will help to make it all the better for her.
Enjoy your champers!0 -
How very lovely that sounds. All the best.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Wasn't this a lovely post. So different from many of the others we've seen over time. In particular this sentence: 'Expensive! Yes, but I think its well worth £600 a week to see Mum into her twilight years with nice surroundings and good care.'
Wonderful. Beamish, I take off my hat to you. This is going to cost £31,200 a year, and there's absolutely no whingeing about 'how can we save our inheritance from being snatched for care costs...' Just an appreciation of what is best for Mum in her 'twilight years' and how to make her as happy and comfortable as possible. More people should think like this.
Very best wishes to you and your Mum.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Hello Beem, so pleased to hear you've found such a good home for your mum and I hope she settles quickly. My mum is in a really good home, but unfortunately she's not happy- although I don't think she'd be happy anywhere at the moment. We lost my dad last year and due to a rapidly declining health condition she can no longer cope by herself. I know that realistically I could not cope physically with my mums care by having her live with me & my family I still feel terrible guilt by 'putting her in a home'. I go in every day to see her but I don't think i'll ever forgive myself. By the way, we are paying £785.00pw and i dread the day the funds from the sale of her property run out- I would hate for Social Services to take over and demand she moves to a cheaper home. I guess we'll just have to cross that bridge if we come to it.
All the best to you and your mum.0 -
Just a little update on Mum.
All I can say is what a difference we have seen in her these last few days, she is really enjoying herself.
Tuesday was settling in day, she had a lovley Welcome, a nice lunch and then took a afternoon nap in her new bed, she says her bed is so cosy and comfy, at T Time all the family went to see her with cards and flowers, the evening sun was so nice we had the champers in the garden, by the end of the day Mum was overawed but happy.
We left Mum to have a day off from us all on Wednesday but I popped in on Thursday, there she was playing Hoopla with the Activiies Nurse and having a good giggle, she had already been taken for a push around the garden in her wheelchair and was looking forward to the Bingo session in the afternoon.
I had a chat with her Senior Nurse and Carer and was thrilled to hear that Mum had managed to wash herself, clean her teeth and do her hair that morning, she had even had breakfast in bed (on her bed table) whilst watching t.v., they were so proud of her.
Mum has Parkinsons and up until the move used to just sit in a chair all day, did not have any motivation to come out for a little trip, relied on her carers to do for her, and every afternoon would want to go to her room for a sleep, her speech & motorbility were pretty poor as well.
I am amazed how things have improved so much in the last 5 days, her speech is so much better, she is now using the zimmer to get about, joining in the activiies, eating so much better (she has fallen in love with the Chef!) and she has stopped going for her afternoon sleep, she now likes to doze in her chair for an hour, have her afternoon cuppa and then join in the activities.
She even asked me to get her a newspaper the other day!
Its a pleasure to go and see her in nice pleasant surroundings and to see her smiling again.
I almost got my Mum back to how she used to be.
EG I did mention to the home about what would happen when the money ran out (a good few years yet) and have been told that the S.S. wont move her as here in Cardiff there are very few Nursing Homes, plus she will always stay in the room she is in now.
