My first greenhouse - advice please
Comments

Hi see,
i ended up with the new one as i wanted to avoid the glass ones, only one person i know has replaced glass with the 3mm poly and he lost a lot of it in the gales, the clips arn`t strong enough as the poly flexes with the wind and pings out. I found quite a few people online who had this happen too.
We are on top of a hill in a very windy area so felt that the poly was best if it was the 4mm twin walled type and the green house that i have chosen dosen`t use clips, it actually fits into the framework of the greenhouse itself so shouldn`t come out whatever the weather.
I do envy you the money saving bit, my neighbour got a lovely one off ebay for £80, i don`t know the size but it`s huge
Thanks for the info

Hi sunnyday.
I have just bought one of these a couple of weeks ago
It is almost up  Be warned, the instructions are very very difficult to follow but its looking OK...just needs a few bits finishing off but the weather intervened. THankfully, a couple of people have done it for me or I think I would have jumped on it in frustration.
We also live in a windy, exposed area. The greenhouse is on slabs which wasn't a good move on my part as DH will have to drill through these and anchor it down. He says its no problem but... It has stood up to the high winds yesterday and the torrential rain with no ill effects.
I will be interested to see what other MSEers have to say.
Hi Janey,
the greenhouse is now up :j :j :j
You were right about the instructions - i nearly smashed it to pieces in frustration, we couldn`t get the windows right for ages and there were three of us putting it together. Some of this was our fault though as we started from the middle of the book and built the sides first instead of the first page so we had to keep back tracking. Great advice from one of our helpers - not lol.
We have had some pretty awful weather and it`s stood up to all of it, i was a bit doubtful during the building but now it`s solid as a rock and i know i made the right choice of greenhouse.
I hope this helps someone.

I've found that the best way to ensure it is safe in strong winds is to use this stuff.
http://www.screwfix.com/prods/63959/Sealants-Adhesives/Tapes/Duct-Tape/Duck-Heavy-Duty-Tape-Virtually-Clear;jsessionid=4QXLVXLUJSK1QCSTHZOSFEY
Any idea how many rolls of this tape it would be wise to get to use on an 8x6 greenhouse?0 -
Is anybody able to offer any suggestions?0

I think one roll should be sufficient. I've used the same stuff to secure my roof windows and not even used a half a roll yet. I will probably put some more on later this year to make sure it's secure for winter but don't envisage using the whole roll.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
