i need to replace the lights in my lounge as its currently an ugly black thing with fancy patterns, but i get lost when i look in the diy shop as there are so many lights on display.
whats the general fashion for lighting in a lounge or bedroom these days? in my kitchen i'm just getting a 3/4 bar spotlight and in the bathroom and hall area there is a 3 way spotlight (not bar).
any advice appreciated!

Asda do some nice budget ceiling lights but be aware of your ceiling height. The trend seems to be for lots of dangle and if you are even average height you can do yourself an injury!0

don't know the answer, as it all depends on taste, power outage,
Look at all your current fittings, and if they are screw, buy the lights with the same size screw. If they are bayonette, buy one with the same sise of bayonnette - it just makes life easier than looking for a 12v that has a special fitting! Don't buy fancy bulbs either
Think people are into energy saving ones these days. For a price they even make energy saving spots, which are not as bright but cost more. Buy a normal fitting and save the hassle. People only really notice if there is no light.GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.
