So, i've lost a roof tile!
The good news is its just one tile and its in a place i can easily access (on the front of my garage roof).
I think i can replace this myself quite easily, but..... how do i tell what kind of roof tile i've got? If i go into a builders merchants can i just take a picture or is it worth removing another tile and taking it in?

I took a sample to a tile supplier and they just said 'That's a Marley Bold Roll'. Easy.
Better to take a tile because they sometimes come in different shades which change colour with age. A specialist will know which one you want. Be prepared for the new tile to look quite different until it weathers in (a couple of years).
Because tiles are laid from the bottom to the top of a roof it isn't quite as easy as you'ld think to slot one in. You need something to lever up the tiles above and to the side of the one you are replacing. Having said that I did several on my garage roof some years ago and it wasn't a terribly hard job.0 -
Well i'll be damned, i've just googled "Marley Bold Roll" and it looks exactly like my tiles!
I'll still see if i can get another one off an take it in.

If their houses have the same roof tiles ask your neighbours. I scrounged about a dozen spare tiles by asking a builder who was doing a loft conversion for some - he was only going to chuck them away! That way the tiles are nicely weathered to match the rest of your roof and won't look like a patchwork quilt.
