To answer your earlier quesstion, the wattage of an electrical appliance is usually on a plate on the back (Or a sticker) If not try the instruction book.

Whilst true, that wattage rating is meaningless as a means of calculating consumption for the majority of appliances.

e.g. for Fridges, freezers, ovens, microwaves, immersion heaters, ovens, washing machines, dryers, computers, heaters, etc etc.

For instance my cold fill washing machine is rated at 3 kW and a typical wash takes 1.5hours. However it doesn't use 4.5 kWh for a wash but typically 0.6 kWh or 0.9 kWh.

OK to make things easy to understand, Where my earlier post said to switch on a known wattage appliance, please substitute - Switch on a known wattage appliance that remains on, ie without any kind of thermostat or programme that involves different loads during the cycle. I would recommend a one bar electric fire, or perhaps a fan heater with the setting very high so that the thermostat does not cut in. Hope this helps.

    Sorry I wasn't being facetious - I hadn't seen your earlier post.

However it is as well to point out to someone that doesn't understand 'wattage' that they must ensure that a constant load is required.
