'Blue Screen of Death"

I'd be really grateful if someone can please help, we have the one laptop which is for all uses including college work, working from home, internet and itunes.
Recently, whenever I go into itunes and then the store, after a couple of seconds/minutes (depends), the screen goes cobalt blue and black pixels, and then dies and restarts. The IT guy at work says this is the blue screen of death :eek: and means my computer is goosed - someone please tell me he's wrong??? ANy advice and reassurance would be very much appreciated!!!!
