Jam-making - a sugar question.

Options
I bought some jam sugar to make jam as my local freezer shop were selling really cheap frozen fruit. Now they don't have it any more but I have some sugar left. Is it ok just to use it like normal sugar or will something dreadful happen?

Erm... that's a good one. Hm... jam sugar has pectin in it which helps the jam to set.

You might get a cup of tea that you can really stand a spoon up in! :)

There's a really informative page on sugars in the link below and, looking at it, I think I'd rather save any jam sugar for the next season.

If you like marmalade you could always use the jam sugar to make that when the seville oranges appear in the shops after christmas.

I have a large bag of jam sugar, which of course I was intending to use for jam, but I've just run out of sugar for baking and am wondering if anyone knows what would happen if I use this?

The only extra thing it contains is pectin, I'm just not sure what that would do!

You will die a very horrible death. :D

I have no idea, but I'm sure it will be fine.

hehe, you're just hoping if I do I'll leave you my dehydrator.

Haven't had the nerve to try it yet, will have a shot on sunday. I just didn't want to bake a banana loaf that the knife would bounce off!

Amazing how quick Google indexes Moneysavingexpert. This post it the 1st hit for "using jam sugar in baking".

Anyhow this website is further down in the list, it says you cannot use it: -

Looks like you'll have to make jam with it. :D

Although now that you mention it, a dehydrator would be nice. ;)
