Kitchen Quote rant

Hello there, excuse my first post on this board being a rant! I am just being terribly niave here or am I right to be peeved. I have been trying to get MFI to quote me for a kitchen. I have had one fitted from them before with no major issues and they worked out to be by far the cheapest.
I asked the designer if i could book an appointment. ( Ive tried before and as I hadnt made my final choice of kitchen they were very rude and wouldnt do it ) He asked what range I was intrested in and i stated Space cream. Yes that will be about 6-8k. How on earth can he quote that without knowing what my kitchen is like or what I want???? When I put that too him he stated " I do this every day love!! The size of the kitchen doesnt make a difference"
I had already told him he could qoute me for appliances but I would probably get them myself, I dont think he liked this at all. The other thing was as they wouldnt do a design for me last week I went to a local company who did the CAD and quoted me 6K for the whole job (fitted MFI's wasnt) and they did suggest there would be room for negotiation on that price.
Now I sort of told a bit of a lie at MFI and said I had been quoted 5.5K ( just because he's peed me off with his random quoting) and he said well we wont do it for less than that and walked off, so basically they wont do me a design or a quote!!!
I am right to think this was all a bit bizzare?

I should add my kitchen is 3m by 3.85 m. The units are to go in a right L shape with all new integrated appliances and laminate worktops ( wanted black galaxy but hey ho lol )

Yep..there's a few other posts on here mentioning MFIs bizarre ways of doing business..including an MFI employee trying to give an explanation. MFI were taken over not so long ago so everything there is different. I'd just tell them to stick it where the sun doesn't shine and go somewhere else that will give you a quote based on fact rather than plucking a figure out the air.
To be fair a small kitchen does require just as much work to actually install as a large kitchen but obviously there won't be the same number of cabinets, length of worktop etc . Wherever you get the units from don't use the stores own installation service but employ your own tradesmen - take it from someone who learnt from that mistake!
The local company sounds more promising

You could design it yourself easily - and find out how much it will cost - go online to B&Q or Ikea Website?
If you buy the kitchen, you can get a joiner or a kitchen fitter in yourself, or B&Q do a fitting service.
There's no difference in the quality of the kitchen between MFI and the better DIY onesI often think about The Samuel Vimes 'Boots' Theory Of Socio-Economic Injustice. :cool:0 -
We had the same experience with MFI, well they did eventually come out but the designer(I use the term loosely) forgot to include the end panels in the measurements so had we gone ahead, the kitchen would not actually have fitted:mad:
Anyway we got our space cream units from Howdens in the end,a lot cheaper, with a dishwasher thrown in and they are rigid carcassesso it took less time for our builder to install. Looks fab with black granite worktops:j0
