I bought a leather bag from Topshop two months ago and have mostly using it for work.
This morning one of the handles broke!
I don't have the receipt anymore but I do have a bank statement. Can I return it and complain?

you can return it, and ask for a replacement. If they can't replace it, then suggest they refund you. Or if you know you're going to spend the money there, get a credit note (check the expiry date) The bag would appear not to be fit for purpose (sale of goods act).
assuming you're not a courier of gold bullion or lead weights, this should be quite straight forward.Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0 -

Thank you. I knew I have some rights with regards to it not being fit for purpose but since it has been two months since I bought it I thought it had been too long0 -
How has the handle become damaged ?Was the handbag the only thing you bought?0

I'd expect a bag I bought to last for longer than two months.
good point on the single item purchased hollydays, makes it easier to see the original value (so they don't try to claim it's now worth 5p)Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0 -
but I'm sure you can...
Any ideas?

I would ring the store explain about the statement, speak to the manager, take it back when the manager is there, might save yourself a wasted journey.Sale of Of Goods act says something like (I am sure someone else can post the link) purchase may be a bank statement. Some stores aren't aware of this.Perhaps you could ring head office first ,and ask.Get a name.0

Hi, I used to work for Arcadia in the customer services head office.
I can say that if you bought an item and the manufacturing went wrong on it within 6 months you are entitled to a full refund. After 6 months its at the stores descresion and will usually result in vouchers rather then a refund.
The following will ensure you get a refund 1st time
If you have the time, it can speed thinsg up to visit the store and explain, some stores are aware of this (national) policy with faults, but some are not.
What you need to do is call customer services head office (number is 0844 984 0264 and the number is charged at the normal national calling rate- do NOT use a mobile phone it will add up!!)
You may need to wait on hold but be patient, its a small office and they like to deal with customers properly, in addition to doing every other job imaginable, all at the same time.
Just explain what happened with your bag, and ask for a reference number. (This is very important), when you have the reference number, you can get a refund. They will need to take your address, its not for anything bad, its just insurance.
Then visit the store, explain what happened to your bag and say you spoke to customer services and that you have a reference number. The store will then need to call up customer services and verify that the reference ties up, then they can proceed with a refund.
Make sure you point out that it is a fualt to the customer services, they cannot refund for missuse, or preventable damage, this is why you take it to the store, so the head office can double check its actually a fault and not damage done on purpose.
Hope that help0
