The problem is that we bought a new Technosonic LCD2606 in september 2007 for our mother. This week it has developed a fault and will no loner switch on. I have tried to arrange to reutrn it to Tesco but we have lost the receipt and cannot find it anywhere and they have said that we need the receipt for any return.
Does anybody know anything else to try either to get the TV working or get tesco to accept the return?
Cheers

You don't need a receipt to return anything!
You ideally want proof of purchase though.
I had a VCR from Sainsburys, and I showed them one line of a credit card statement (covered the rest) to prove I bought it there. They then took it back without question.
A credit/debit card statement is fine as proof of purchase.0 -
Well i havent got any proof of purchase in any sense as we paid for the TV with cash, looking back very stupid thing to have done, and we no longer have the receipt. All the statements shows is that i withdrew some money from my account that day.0

When you buy a TV you have to fill out a name and address form for licensing purposes at the checkout.
It may be possible that Tesco keep a record of these which will show your details.
Bit of a long shot but may be worth a try.0 -
I bought my technosonic from Somerfield a few years ago. It developed the same fault. They hadnt asked me to fill in a form for tv licencing requirements and I didnt have my till receipt. I did have the entry on a bank statement though. They weren't interested. They told me to ring the technical helpline in the booklet, which I did and an engineer came out, put a new little fuse/capacitor or whatever inside and its been fine since.
He told me that its a common fault with these tellys because the manufacturer uses the smallest size fuse/capacitor to keep the tv cheap, but they cant cope and always blow within a few weeks or months depending on use.
He advised taking out the extra guarantee cover before the warranty expires incase it should go again. I didnt do this, but it hasnt gone since (thankfully). I think if it does I will prob just buy a new telly.
