    Hi Everyone,

Not sure if we have this thread over here on BR board but DFW bump this often so that newcomers new & old are aware of the possibility of `troll` issues.

They `bump` it along regularly to keep it in peoples minds. Perhaps it would work over here?

Pania`s words are so brilliant I could`nt better them myself so I copied as below.

    Notice to newcomers re trolls.
    Hi everybody.

Over the last few weeks we have had a number of "troll" attacks on the boards.

What is a Troll? A troll is a person that posts deliberately provocative, nasty or hurtful comments on threads. They may be a person with no previous connection to the board or someone that has created a pseudonym to get their point made.

If you should get a comment made on any thread you post asking for help and advice please realise this comment is not directed at you personally.
We really are all a lovely bunch here (oops, modest, sorry) so please ignore these nasty comments and continue to post here as normal.

what should i do if i get a comment made on my thread?

firstly do not respond to the comment as this invariably is what the person wants. At the bottom of the post, on the left hand side is a red "warning" triangle. Click this and then "send" the message that comes up. This will report the message to abuse who will review it's content and delete it.

The person we had this morning was particularly vile and nasty and please believe me is an extreme rarity here.
Above all PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE BOARDS. THIS SITE IS AN ASSET TO SO MANY, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT FEELS THE WORLD IS FALLING IN ON YOU. THERE IS SUCH A WEALTH OF ADVICE HERE TO BE HAD THAT THE COMMENTS OF ONE MUST NOT DETER YOU FROM AVAILING YOURSELF OF THE KNOWLEDGE HERE!!!!

It is testament to the work that martin has done and continues to do that so many people give their time knowledge and experience freely to others, without judgement, to lift people out of the depths of debt crisis

PLEASE DO NOT LET THE ACTIONS OF THE MINORITY RUIN THAT.

    Kind wishes
    P

    Hiya,

I was reported for 'trolling' a few months ago but I didn't know until today! I didn't think what I said was offensive but the response I got was to be called a 'retard' which, incidentally, I only seen a few mins ago. My comment wasn't deleted so I'm assuming it didn't cause too much upset?

  • Okay, just a hypothetical suggestion. I think some people deliberately take 'offense' at times in order to provoke and generate arguments. To pick arguments/fights. Just an idea.
Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

or maybe when you go onto a bankruptcy forum and say you don't believe in bankruptcy - then why are you there?

Who said that? Because I have never used those words to anyone here. Oh, sorry I am getting labelled a troll again. I mean why change, I've been labelled my whole entire life by family, whomever. Fairness is often something of a shock because I have never been treated fairly my entire life.

And there I go again 'reacting'. Well I have a damn good reason for reacting like this at times. Because fairness is not something I was blessed with since the day I got born.

Some people get fairness in life, I have not. And it's not because of anything I have done, either. Quite the opposite.

    Oh, just forget it.

I think it's because some people like to go in and give what for to all those they happen to disapprove of. Many trolls or semi-trolls go into highly sensitive boards (because the users in there are in desperate need of help) and smugly dispense their heartless "wisdom". I guess it makes them feel good about themselves, going in from the safety of an anoymous username and hurt people's feelings.

Merlin, don't think FYP was talking about you but the previous poster - not entirely sure but a very strange post by them, which didn't make sense, on another thread

I was just looking around, I was quite new to the site and I suppose I was just trying to get a feel for things. I know now that I was in the wrong but I was genuinely upset at the response I got. I honestly didn't mean to cause any upset, I wished the person good luck.

I tried to post in the threat but it has been closed now. I did see your origional post, you must understand people on this board have raw feelings and for this it is possibly not a good idea saying you dont agree with BR, I feel everyone is allowed their own thoughts and i did not feel your post was a troll post. You clearly did not mean harm and wished the other person luck. Possibly did not deserve that reaction too.
Like I say feelings are raw on here, most people feel guilt as well as releif when they go BR I know I did. BR is a last resort, I honestly think if we had not gone BR our marriage would not have survived or my husband would have ended his life. We went BR to save our finances and possibly the rest of our lives. I have lost my dignity and self respect but feel I have suffered enough If I thought someone was personally attacking me after what we have been through I would fight back.
Take that in mind, overall we are a friendly bunch and if you ever needed our help we would be here.
