Apple imac ordered new received reconditioned

Options
Morning,

Disappointed right now as we ordered a brand new apple imac and what has arrived this morning is one with "certified reconditioned" all over the box. I'm feeling a bit bad because it was me who encouraged my father to buy it direct from the apple store believing there would be no messing around, but what's this? I know there are reconditioned ones on their website which are less money, but we payed full price for a new one! Has this happened to anybody else?

Not quite sure what to do now as it was shipped all the way from CZ!

You'll need to contact Apple direct and discuss this with them, there's not a lot anyone else could do unfortunately..

I'm no expert, but I *believe* that under the Sale of Goods Act, items must be as described. The iMac described as new, but isn't, therefore you are entitled to a refund (or, if you both agree, a replacement iMac that does correspond to the original description).

As be_alright says, the only people that can help you are Apple.

Apple's customer care is excellent in my experience. If you bought it from Apple UK then you will have no problems getting it exchanged free of any postage costs for the correct system, assuming you didn't buy refurbished. If you did then you can still get your money back (minus the return postage fee that Apple charge for returns under the distance selling regulations right-to-cancel)

did you purchase from the main store or the refurb store?

If from the main "new" store, it's simply a mix-up, contact them immediately and they'll sort it out. As everyone has said...

Surely that's the first thing to do before posting anyway? Apple will bend over backwards to help, and you may even get a freebie extra thrown in.

Why was it shipped from CZ?

If you bought online from UK store then the Distance Selling Regs apply, this gives you 7 days from receipt to reject the item for any reason whatsoever, the sale of goods act whilst applicable need not even come into it, just the fact you do not like it is good enough

However to get refund of postage etc it would be sensible, as others have stated, to contact Apple at once, especially as the return clock is ticking

Are you sure you purchased it directly from Apple? I only ask because as far as I recall, my iMac was sent from Cork. This is where Apple's headquarters in the EU are located.

    Thanks everybody for your input.

I was curious as to what other people's experiences are of them. Yes it was purchased direct from the main apple store. I don't know why it was shipped from CZ. Cork is on the invoice, but tracking the code directly through the UPS page it's definitely been making it's way from CZ and it took a long time to get here. My friend also had a delay when he ordered a mac mini which was shipped from China and took weeks to arrive. This is what puzzles me how come Apple don't have a stock here?

Phoned Apple and they say it was a picking error and have arranged another one to be sent, but unfortunately this won't arrive for a while either, CZ I have an awful feeling again, although maybe I'm starting to get down and pessimistic so I'll let you know.

    Thanks again.

Anyhow, I'm glad you got it sorted. Hopefully it will be with you soon!
