A good victory (although in Australia!) for Techies like myself that enjoy tweaking/modding products to get more from them.
Down with the EUCD!!!

with the exception of the fact that the mod chips apparently allow copied games to be played surely this is cut and dried - it's just the same as having a multi region dvd player isn't it - the purpose being to get hold of the films you want to see when you (the consumer) want to see them and not at the whim of the industry and it's regional distribution model?"Don't go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first." (Mark Twain)0

It's illegal in the UK due to the EUCD, as the mod chip is circumventing the protection.
It's a bit of a cheek that the user is forced to play games from a certain region though. Hence the victory in the above article.
For me the best thing about the Xbox is that you can put something like Linux on it, and also run it as a Media Center, playing mp3's and films. Why they didn't do this in the first place I don't know, but to deny people doing it themselves is very frustrating.
I'm sure the Xbox 360 and PS3 won't have all the features they're capable of, so people are bound to be customizing and modding them. Chips go beyond copied games, you can do so much with a console if you know how."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

Please remember not to suggest any illegal or potentially illegal ways of circumnavigating copyrighted media.
