It will need a vic check once repaired to confirm it is the same vehicle. I think insurance is easy enough but if you had an accident and it was written off again you wouldn't get the full market value as it has previously been repaired.0

Generally there are no special conditions, and the insurance companies do not ask if the car has previously been written off. However, at least one insurance company I know of (Swiftcover.com, internet only) will not cover previously written off cars, full stop, end of story. As there is one company, there may well be others with a similar policy - it will pay you to check. I think Swiftcover and their underwriters are in the minority at the moment, most insurance companies will cover previously written off cars.
If the car has been classified by the insurance company as a "category C" write off, it will need an MOT, then a VIC test (see above post, details here ), before you can apply for a tax disc and a new V5. The fact that the car has been previously written off is recorded on the new V5.
If the car was classified "category D", it will need an MOT, but not a VIC. Category D write offs are not recorded on the V5, but will show up on an HPI check (as will category C)
The Code of Practice for the disposal of Motor Vehicle Salvage can be found here. It gives details of the various categories of salvage (A to D), and what applies to each category.People are more important than things0 -
I think this has recently changed and both C and D are now recorded on the V5 and will need a VIC too.0
