I have a critical illness policy with norwich union and my doctor has semi diagnosed me with fibromyalgia. If diagnosis is correct, should my policy pay out?

Should do if it stops you working
Might be worth getting legal advice.0 -
Why get legal advice - surely the correct thing to do is to put in a claim?0

I put it in wikipedia and it came up with the below
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fibromyalgia
it does seem that it can be caused by a wide range of reasons, it may come down to the diagnosed reason.0 -

They try and get out of paying on this, that's why!0 -
Are you saying your GP "semi diagnosed" you as having fibromyalgia because there isn't actually a conclusive "test" for it...only a lengthy process of elimination that it isn't something else....in which case ....I think you may have a problem with your insurance claimI'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0 -
Most people live long lives with fibromyalgia (you will be pleased to know!)Diagnosis is very difficult and should be done by a specialist rheumatologist. Some in the medical profession treat it like ME and deny it exists.I used to work for NHSDirect and got loads of calls about this.
Insurance companies have specific lists of critical illnesses they cover and they can vary from company to company. Therefore you need to ask your insurance company.

One of the clauses you should be able to claim under is the TPD (Total & Permanent Disability) section. if you have "ANY OCCUPATION" cover then you must be unable to perform any occupation. If you have "OWN OCCUPATION" you must be unable to perform your own occupation. This can be difficult though. For example if you are diagnosed with an illness that prevents you from undertaking your normal job the insurance company will try and find what part of your job you can still do and might reject your claim. .0
