Hi,
Firstly thanks for reading. I have recently undertaken a post graduate diploma in buisness and managemnet and am wondering what the next steps would be in order to become a teacher.. I am in my thirties and looking for a career change...ideally would like to teach economics or buisness (or similar)
Thanks

Hi - depends where you want to teach, if you want to teach in a state secondary school you will need to gain QTS(Qualified Teacher Status) - you can get this by either completing the PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) or the Gratuate Trainee Programme - both have their pros and cons - the TTA website has loads of information and is very helpful0

What subject is your degree in?Gone ... or have I?0

You won't find much demand for teaching Economics at secondary level, perhaps a bit more for Business. Have you thought of teaching in an FE college? You can either do a PGCE for this or be offered a job where you can do your teaching certificate whilst working.0

Unless you've got a large Maths component in your degree I think you might have problems with school teaching (although not impossible). Employment in post compulsory education will be much easier to find. If you have a look in the TES you'll be able to see the sort of demand in both areas and this might inform your decision. Good luck.0
