New Connection for Gas

We have recently purchased a property that does not currently have mains gas to the property.

Mains gas is available on the main road, and we are looking into getting this connected into the property.

We have received an information pack from 'National Grid', and will be getting a quote off them.

However, they say that we have a choice of companies to do this work (other than National Grid), and we may consider one of these instead.

Does anyone know of any other companies that could do this work (in the North West) - I can't find much about it on the internet.

Thanks

Isn't it a case that if you don't use National Grid you'll then may find you have to pay extra each month / quarter to your energy supplier as they have to pay for passing through that companies pipework?
