Does anyone know any brands/materials, or have suggestions in general for how to find better quality pillows?
They all claim to be long lasting, but in reality they become flat and refuse to plump up again, or worse yet lumpy after a while. I've tried several different types (some expensive ones too), but I've never had a set that lasted very long.
Is it worth paying more for expensive ones, or should I just buy cheap because none of them will last?

Hmm - pillow tastes are very personal! I swear by feather pillows: I have some still going strong that I bought in M&S in 1989, and another set bought in Ikea in 1998. I wash them once a year in the washing machine. Otherwise all they need is a little shake-up every dat when I make the beds, they never go lumpy or solid.
But if you have allergies that is no good, of course."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -
After many disaters(!!) i have found that if you do some running stitches around the pillows prior to washing then they do survive a wash and tumble dry. Primark do some `bounce back `pillows and they have been quite reliable.0

I've spent a fortune over the years on every kind & price of pillow under the sun, other than mega-expensive goose-down
I did buy some new feather pillows once, but had to chuck them because they smelled like rancid lard _pale_
the only ones I've found which never ever lose their bounce are Dunlopillo latex foam (not the memory ones) they are sooo comfortable
any of my friends who've tried them have gone straight out to get some
they have different qualities & prices, & although the initial outlay is expensive, you'll save in the long run by not having to replace them, some of mine are still on the go after more than a decade & they're like new, plump as ever & no lumps or bumps0 -
Have to agree with you Swan, we are big fans of Dunlopillo in this house too. We have a pair of very heavy, dense ones that are fabulous but when we ordered others online they were quite thin with no substance to them at all. They seem to have changed the names of them so I don't know which ones to get anymore.
I must go into a store so I can grope a few
Do you know of anywhere that stocks the full range?0 -
Feather or down - or a mix are good pillows. All they need is a shake up every day.0

i agree with swan, they are the business, my friends have always gone home to buy more. Well worth it for a great nights sleepThere is no need to run outside

Another vote for dunlopillo. Argos used to sell them for about £15 but don't any more. John Lewis stock several versions but they seem to be £30+.
They are fab though.0 -

I have bought two of those "very heavy, dense" pillows in IKEA. They are shaped so that they are much thicker where you put the neck and so the head rests even with the body instead of unnaturally raised up, especially when you sleep on your side. They were less than £10 each - I can't remember as I bought them a few months ago. They come in a removable, zipped case and the whole lot can be washed.
They are the most comfortable pillows I've ever had.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

I bought some of those, I HATE them. They are hard and uncomfy in my opinion, but it is all personal taste. They are now residing in the airing cupboard. I like a fluffy feather pillow best.0 -
