Cleaning the registry

Options
I have CCleaner on my XP laptop but only used it so far for getting rid of bits of prog' etc. The laptop runs ok so do I need to run the registry cleaner (it found a lot of issues). I am no PC expert and am not that happy messing with the registry. Will cleaning it make that much difference? Does it "need" to be cleaned?

It can make a difference but then again if you're not happy risking it and everything seems to work ok then don't do it. But you do have recourse in the odd event something went wrong with a registry cleanup. You can do a system restore or you can reinstall the unchanged registry (i.e. when CCleaner asks if you want to save a copy of the registry first, say yes!).

Usually using cleaners breaks things. For me, the registry cleaner in CCleaner breaks Microplanet Gravity, my usenet client.

Basicly those simple statements in your post should answer your question.
