Gas & Electricity both in credit

Options
We are looking at transferring our gas and electricity from British Gas to another supplier. Both are in credit to a joint amount of £190, is there anyway of getting this back before I transfer to some other supplier?

Apologies if this is an easy question but am not the best with gas or electricity bills.

Thanks
Neil

I always get in credit with n power. I always just ring them up and tell them and they pay the lump sum into my bank account....so i guess just ask? They may ask for an upto date meter reading so have them to hand (just to make sure you are actually in credit) Hope this helps

If you're looking to switch anyway, you'll get the money back when they issue a final bill.

How do you ascertain you are in credit?

The difficulty with BG is that if you pay by DD, the DD payments are are credited monthly but you are only billed quarterly.

e.g. Take a situation where I pay,say £80 a month and at the end of the last quarter I was £40 in debit.

My last 3 payments of £80 would be shown as a credit and if I look at my account today I am in credit by £200. However tomorrow I get a bill for £220 debited and I will be £20 in debit.
