Friends Stopping Me Save

Its interesting to read all your experiences im in a similar situation 2 years since my LBM and 2 years still to go. I often find myself making up excuses with friends and avoiding texting them just so that i dont have to make plans to meet for lunch tea etc. I also volunteer to work when a night out is arranged as thats easier than just not turning up. I do the driving thing too but find all the excuses and avoidance can wear you down a bit. Practically, because my ex moved out a while ago and the kids stayed with me, I wasn't really able to go out that much, so used to invite friends round of an evening. I'd make dinner, and they'd bring a bottle/beers/whatever and it meant I still got to see them even if I couldn't go out with them that much.
They understand generally, and it's fairly common anyway to organise cheap nights round whoever's house for a barbeque/paying Wii/watching films or whatever. If I do go out, I'm quite lucky in my friends always offer to buy me drinks (when I say 'drinks', I mean soft drinks as I don't drink alcohol so I'm a cheap night out anyway!)
It's also common to hear someone say "I'm skint" as a reason why they're not going out and everyone accepts that so they're quite a good bunch!Dealing with my debts!Currently overpaying Virgin cc -balance Jan 2010 @ 1985.65Now @ 703.63

Hi All!
Totally agree with everyones comments on this subject! Once, I had a friend who would go in a mood & make my life a misery (worked with her as well
) if I didn`t or couldn`t go out/go holidays abroad or lend her money every time she snapped her fingers(& rarely got the money back!) Looking back, I must`ve been a right doormat!!!!! Nowadays, my husband & I have a mix of friends, some really struggle while others are quite comfortably off but everyones favourite evening in/out is to go to each others homes for a bite to eat,a few drinks and some drunken antics on the PS2 or Wii :rotfl: That way it`s quite a cheap, safe night for everyone with plenty of food/drink/chat/laughs. If anyone tried to make us or any of our friends feel awkward for trying to be careful with money I`d be inclined to give them a wide berth x What goes around, comes around......:kisses3:0 -
:hello: Hiya all, I also agree, I never tell anyone about the debt and just get on with it quietly, people including DP get mad at me and say I'm a scrooge, which I agree IS upsetting. He even told me once, that it was ok for me cos I enjoy going without I must do cos it's my choice. Wot on earth does THAT meanI have been so soft with everyone in the past and lent them money or run up the cc on household food petrol etc then don't get paid back and have to clear the debt myself!
Infact if I called in all my debt owed to me it's about £36,000. which I usually keep very quiet about as I think it makes me feel a right prat:eek:
Good luck to one and all  if we just stick to the plan, we'll all get DF and then I just need to also learn how to say NO, don't I?

I have this problem a lot! To the point where I ignore friends and don't answer the phone

They seem to think it's perfectly acceptable to bully me into travelling a 300 miles round trip to see them for a drunken weekend! I would love to, but I can't afford it. £60 fuel, £30 drinks, £30 eating out, etc etc.. It would cost the same as a small holiday!
The worst thing is, it's some of their fault that I went bankrupt. When I realised I had serious money problems I was living closer to them and so they were always ringing and making me feel guilty for not going out.. I just ended up spending money on cinema, food, drinks etc.. I don't even like alcohol that much really!! Anyhow, cash flow for business went tits up, and eventually I ran out of money..
Even now, when they know i'm bankrupt they still try it on..! I just don't answer my phone.. it's easier to think of an excuses over MSN..

I have no friends.

And also I have no debts. As matter of fact I have manage to amass a sizable chunk of savings.

Friends that call you tight aren't real friends at all.
If they haven't realised why you have moved back home then they obviously are a bit dim on the money front!!0
