i got an e-letter on my online banking but i hadn't seen it as it was in amongst the statements. they didn't write to me at home at all it siad it would be reviewed apparently but nope, no review just a remove!!! have applied to A+L today, no A+L where i live but they have very good reviews. also looking at natwest but not sure. sorry to hear of your troubles though. just called xoh to warn him as he has a mahoosive OD with another bank. that would wreck him financially if they removed that.

We also ha our overdraft facility removed recently. Luckily, I had enough overtime money to cover it or else we would have been in trouble.

We've got a Co-Operative account, with no branch nearby. We use internet banking, and can pay in cheques etc via the post office.
Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches

I do most of my banking online so I suppose it would be an option but I use the quick deposit in the bank for cheques and go in every month or so with my change jars so think I'd be abit lost without a local branch.

We used to have an A+L branch here but it closed, my mum still has her account with them and does her banking through the Post Office and hasn't had a problem at all either using the branch or in the po.

Their basic current account is called the Cash Minder. Not sure if it's smudge friendly - we got ours before I got all my smudges :p

Just a basic one alleybabes. is a shame as i've never had an issue with halifax and have always found them very good.
The lady on the phone was deliberately antagonistic. asking me why i was shouting at her when i was speaking to her very politely! and also stating that she "was finding the call very difficult" when i challenged her over asking me to borrow the money from a friend. Has kind of soured the apple a little now. I've always recommended them for a good basic account (ie easycash) but am looking to ship out myself now also.

Its a shame that she treated you like that, have you tried to upgrade to a high interest account? i have been with them 2 years and i have a high interest account and am allowed up to 3 and a half grand, i wouldnt dare use up to that amount, whenever i am due for a review i look up on internet banking and apply again then it gives me another year, but i do sympathise as i would be in deap **** without my overdraft, i dont blame you for looking elswhere

I'm with BOS (the other part of halifax now) and have paper free banking. Got a "letter" saying they were reviewing my od facility. I panicked as I'm in it for most of the month as the interest rate is lower than the cc I'm paying off.

The review was supposedly a month or so from the letter date so planned to get myself out of the od and leave the cc overpayments.

BUT about 2 weeks later I got TWO IDENTICAL!!! letters through the post, on the same day saying that they'd recently written to me saying they were REMOVING my od facility (nope they didn't, they were reviewing it) and that it was incorrect and would be in place till May next year at least

I've had SO many problems with bos/hbos over the last while I'm at the end of my tether with them so I'm leaving asap. Due to where I live I'm a bit restricted with the banks available though

I wonder if this is partly motivated by bank charges, a lot of people have emergency overdrafts on their accounts as a "buffer" in case they need the money urgently.
No more overdraft = Lots of charges for those in the brown stuff
