Why dont we start a thread that lists all the free software available to download.
This is a money saving website so it would be great to encourage people to just upgrade their pcs or even start a new pc off with free software, and as its open source its 100% legal as well.

Excellent idea already know where there's a list, thank goodness for copy and paste.
On a different but related topic, can we persuade Martin to remove the notice he has on this web site about the site being designed for Internet Explorer and may look "wonky" in other browsers? Or is that gone now? I think it's a little hypocritical to have a list of free software while at the same time saying the web site looks best in Internet Explorer.

"Free" and "open source" do not necessarily mean the same thing.0

... and by that you mean?0

some open source programs charge to use them.
for example. The Linux OS is technically open source software but some distributions are completely free, others charge, and other have a choice of free and pay.The difference between genius and stupidity is that genius has its limits0 -

Free software, aka Freeware, is software that is distributed free of charge.
Open source means that the code of the program is available for anyone to amend and modify.0 -
Either way I think it's nice when people post their own favourites, and then there's a master list with all the programs listed as well (with download links). Then the whole thread gets stickied, and becomes a very useful resource for everyone. It doesn't matter that there's duplication within posts, the fact that so many list a particular program as a favourite says a lot about it. Plus everyone is going to have a slightly different selection of favourite free software, based on their interests and needs.0

I'll post two freeware programs that I use an awful lot.
Speedfan - Shows you the temperature of your CPU, the RPM of your Fans and the voltages on the different rails in your pc.
Cpuz - Shows you information on your CPU, Motherboard and Memory. Handy if you're not sure what's in your system or you're trying to help others.0 -
