could i have had virus

i have had to completly wipe everything off computer and restore back to original settings as my computer would not start up could i have had a virus?

    Are you running an antivirus program that regulary updates itself?

    it could have just been a loose connection!! a single file been corrupted jesus many things could stop a pc from starting up!!!
