The mystery shopping thread - part 4

It's an interesting point! I'd like to know if this is the case - wonder if dmg24 happens to be reading this thread - she will know hopefully!
I've got a Law degree but I graduated 10 years ago unfortunately, so I can't quite remember the ins and outs, but I've always had the impression that the Data Protection Act isn't worth the paper it's written on
Mmmm! I've given myself a week off next week so maybe a trip to the local uni to use their law library may be in order.
Yes I'm sad like that LOL0 -
I'm back again LOL
I have just had the most bizarre e-mail from BARE (well at least I think it's them)
This is xxxx from Bare International. As I looked up in our database and found out you have been doing a great job as our Mystery Shopper and we really appreciate it so much. Now we are going to run an Automotive project in Singapore very soon and high profile shoppers are needed for this project, half of them must be westerners; I would like to know from you whether you have any friends or relatives who work there and you would like to recommend to us
If I'm such a "great shopper" how come I've had jobs pending for weeks?
Singapore????
Come on! If I knew someone in Singapore I'd be over there with them

I had that - I want to reply and ask them why they think I'm so great despite me not working for them for at least a year and scoring only 9 on my reports. Surely a briliant shopper would be a regular one who scores 10 all the time?!!0
-
Yet another rejection from bare for me then...0

Cool it's just a generic e-mail then?
I was wondering why on earth they'd think I knew someone in Singapore but I should have known really that "as I looked up in our database" is just an euphemism for "we'll just send this mail to every single person that we know about, but make it look as though we have done some work and researched our target audience"
I've got a 9 rating as well, so obviously we just don't cut the mustard Timmne :rotfl:0 -

Got e-mail last night along the lines of "You must have your fast food assignment report submitted within 8 hours or we shall line you up against the wall for the firing squad", which in itself is enough for you to scream go forth and multiply at your computer screen (which I did incidentally LOL). Looked at e-mail again and it's only got the e-mail address of every person this particular e-mail has been sent to on it!
Isn't there something called the Data Protection Act that this is contravening?
I guess that there are no personal details disclosed (other thank the fact that someone at that email address does MS) so it is probably not illegal. Add to that the fact that GAP are based outside the UK/Europe so they are not restricted by the UK laws.
However, this is very short sighted of them and very dangerous. There have been a few scam emails sent to shoppers recently and we all wondered where they get the email addresses. I am not suggesting for one moment that GAP are responsible but it does make you think.
Does their site guarantee privacy ?
Gap offer a privacy policy on their website
"GAPbuster Worldwide will not make membership details available to external parties."
The above is available in the public and the assessors parts of the website.
Now, let's see, we get sacked without any compunction for any indiscretion they find, what can we do ?0 -

there are a couple showing on the website if you search all areas.“A banker is the fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining and wants it back the minute it begins to rain.” Mark Twain0

I did check last night and I can't see them so I think I might not be the correct 'type' of person that they want!Sealed pot Member target £200 - No. 151
