Hi
I have an acer aspire laptop which doesn`t switch on. I read somewhere that if you take the battery out, hold the `on` button down for 10-15 seconds replace the battery and power cord and try again it may work. If I do this the orange battery light comes on next to the screen and on one occasion the laptop worked fine for 20mins.
I took it to a repair shop who said that it could be the power supply (which would cost in the region of £110 to replace) or the motherboard (which would cost £60 laboue and somewhere between £60 and £180 for the motherboard).
Could it be as simple as changing the battery? the laptop is about 3 years old
anybody got any ideas, I don`t want to buy another battery is there are other associated problems with it.

try it with the battery out and just the mains adapter, if it boots ok and works then the battery has died
you can get a generic Laptop power supply for £20-30 from MaplinsEx forum ambassador
