for the OCM - i started with a very small amount of castor oil and it did give me spots on my chin. however, it really had made a difference on my nose and i'm using it every 3/4 days.:happyhear0

Another vote here for Liz Earle products. I also rate Nuxe products and the Australian Bodycare Tea Tree range. All of these are reasonably priced and work very well.0

Oily or combination skin then do avoid anything that has alcohol, it will strip your skin causing it to produce more oil = more spots.
Its the oil production that's causing the spots. Too much sebum being produced and then getting blocked by dead skin causing plugs - blackheads
You need to keep your skin as clean and as moisturised as gently as you can.
Liz Earle is a great place to start. Her cream cleanser is very gentle and non drying. The muslin cloths go a long way towards ex foliating (very important) but I would advise buying an additional exfoliater (liz earle) after your skin has got used to the cleanser.
She does a fantastic light moisturiser. Even though you have oily skin you still need to moisturise - dont skip this step.
Once moisturiser has soaked in - then you add your sun protection. Personally i use a mineral foundation with its own SPF so i couldn't recommend any particular one.
As for the OCM - Fantastic for oily skin - really
Yes when you first start to do it you will get spots or blind boils but thats the gunk coming out. Keep at it and you really will see an improvement to skin texture. I would advise trying it - but give your skin a chance to get used to Liz Earle (or whoever you go with) first. Too many changes at once will really stress your skin out and will create havoc. I always introduce one change at a time leaving 3 or 4 days before introducing something else 0 -
Thanks for all the advice everyone.
Tinkerbell, strangely that's my logic...I don't mind getting spots the week I go camping because nobody will know me apart from my hubby. If I got such horrible spots while at work I'd end up getting depressed and not wanting to leave the house to see people I know. Does that make sense?
I should get the liz earle cleanser by Friday. So if I use that for a week, then the following Saturday try the oil cleansing method that should be OK?
I'll stick to the same moisturiser for now. (Clinique Dramatically different).
I have a microdermabrasion kit, which I used last night, my skin is nice and smooth today. Are these recommended? I probably never use it often enough - only when I remember which is every few months! If it's OK to use, where would I fit this into the regime?0 -

I did it once, last weekend, and had the most horrific spots this week - I never usually get them and they were huge angry red lumps.
I'm not ever doing it again!!!! It was hideous!!!
But that means the cleansing is working and if you had carried on the spots would have all come and gone and left you with amazingly clean pores0 -

Yep, give your skin a few days on the Liz Earle. Do remember that you may get an outbreak for a few days. This will be because Liz Earle is a very good cleanser and is doing its job, You might actually see a huge improvement and decide not to use the OCM but I have to say my oil problem is a lot better now - make up lasts all day without sliding off.
microdermabrasion kits can be very harsh, I personally cant use any as I have extremely sensitive skin. They are designed to be used once or twice weekly only - after cleansing and before moisturising. A daily exfoliate is a kinder option for my skin. I love Gatineau Oxygenating Exfoliater - expensive but so gentle for me so when I cant afford that I opt for anything thats not too grainy.
Dont forget if you are still getting dry bits you need to moisturise more. I use a heavier night cream and keep my daytime one very light. Im now experimenting with almond oil for nights
