Cream facial cleaners and face creams

All this facial care is so confusing.

I have such bad skin. I have large pores, blackheads, spots and I get dry patches on my forehead and cheeks. My skin has always been like this...no matter what products I try. I assume I'm doing something wrong.

I've been using facial wipes for a couple of years because I thought they were better for removing the makeup completely. But after reading some posts on here there are people that think they are not very good except maybe for using when camping :)

I've been reading that people recommend cream facial cleaners. Can anyone actually recommend an actual cream facial cleaner?

The other thing I've been looking into is sun cream for the face and primers (seen that the GOSH primer has been recommended).

If I were to use some sort of sun face cream, when does this go on? Do I still use moisturiser, or does this replace it? I take it the primer goes on after and before the foundation?

I love Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish! The cheapest place to get it is from John Lewis who do a starter kit with free P&P (they don't always have it in stock thought).

I sympathise, as I also have rotten skin - oily and greasy t zone, spotty, and yet with really dry red cheeks, and very sun sensitive too. I've started using clinique stuff which people either love or hate, and the difference has been amazing for me, my skin looks much much better, hardly a spot and much softer.

It might be worth popping along to one of their counters, asking for suggestions - they'll talk you through your skin type and suggest the best products - then ask for some sample, they normally have little trial size minis.

In terms of something to protect from sun I am currently using their superdefense which has an spf of 25 I think.

Good luck - trying to find skincare to suit can be a nightmare!

p.s. - I still use a normal make up remover to get rid of my eye make up, and a wipe would be fine for this, but I think you still need to use a proper cleanser afterwards. I use the mild liquid facial soap, mild clarifying lotion, dramatically different moisturising gel and superdefence - manages to get my skin feeling clean and fresh and stop spots but without drying out the patches!

Thanks Scotsgirl. I use some clinique already. I'm back on the dramatically different moisturising lotion which I like, but I try and change every 6 months or so as I was told that your skin gets used to the same products. I've found this has worked as I do see an improvement when I change and then come back to the clinique lotion.

I've also used the moisture surge light in the past when I had terribly dry skin (flaky patches) and found that worked.

You've reminded me of the superdefence cream. I'm not sure which one I used, but I did use the trial pot (i love the free gift bags they do when on promotion). Anyway, I remember that being good, but I was put off by the price. But maybe I'll look into that if it has the sun protection built in.

It does seem to be trial and error though, doesn't it?

I've also been looking on the web today for information about skin types. Maybe I'm using the wrong products for my type. I just can't figure out the skin type I have. I always end up shiny/greasy/oily after a few hours into the day. But I find my skin to be dry when I'm trying to put foundation on, it just doesn't blend nicely like it does in the adverts :) And when I have bits of dry skin it shows up horribly with the foundation. It's so frustrating. Maybe I should think of changing foundations? I've been using clinique super something of other (oil free) for years.

Hi there, maybe you could pop to Clarins counter, i think, not sure if its still ongoing though, explain your problem areas and youll get 3 free samples to try.

I used to get loads of blackheads, but since starting on clarins gentle foaming cleanser i dont seem to get as many.

At night i always cleanse twice or sometimes 3 times until cotton pads are clean, it really seems to help.

I moisturise then apply sun lotion in the morning. Just try and find products that suit you and stick to a routine, gets boring cleansing, toning and moisturising but i think its really pays off.
Just to win anything would be great!!

Another vote for Liz Earle. I get crap skin if I don't use it! ;)

(Clinique won't be helping your skin - it's incredibly harsh)

I'm also on the superfit foundation which i do find blends much better over the superdefence. Could be worth trying some sort of primer though, sainsburys used to do a radiance balm which was good although i did avoid putting it on my oil slick forehead!

Some Clinique products are harsh like the higher number toners - got a sample of the #3 and the smell just about knocked me out!- but the ones i am currently using really don't seem to be harsh at all, at least for me. Liz earle brought my spots out, don't know why:confused:

I think lab lover is right - routine pays off but its soo boring! Sometimes it only takes a small difference in product as well - i once bought the dramatically different lotion by mistake instead of the gel and thought ach, how different can it be, so started using it - my skin did not like that at all.:eek:

i think there's a difference between clinique moisturisers and their toner stuff. i know the toner has alcohol in which is bad, but their moisturisers are generally amazing (and i did hear somewhere that the new No7 stuff is clinique stuff that's no longer under patent?!). their pore minimizer stuff is also feb (someone on here recommended it and i'm a big fan now too!).

lots of people on here (myself included) are trying the oil cleansing method to reduce pores. seems to be doing ok (obviously there is no overnight fix) http://www.theoilcleansingmethod.com/

I found that oilcleansingmethod in another thread. It does sound quite scarey putting oil on your face. How long have you been trying this?

Does this method replace all other cleansing? I'm not sure I understand. I did read the article through. I'll have another read to see if I'm missing something.

OK, I've found the following thread which has helped a bit.
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=917733&page=5&highlight=oil+cleansing+method

but I'm so worried about coming out in huge spots. It really kills my confidence. I have spots all the time, but the big boils really depress me :( I'm going camping in a couple of weeks. I think I shall try and get the ingredients for then and do it the night before we leave.

And I think I've decided on the Liz Earle cleansing thing which is £12.75 from John lewis.

DON'T DO THE OIL CLEANSING THE NIGHT BEFORE YOU GO!!!

I did it once, last weekend, and had the most horrific spots this week - I never usually get them and they were huge angry red lumps.

I'm not ever doing it again!!!! It was hideous!!!
