hmmmm i thought i was trying to do something positive for my childrens enviroment, both now and the future!
Surely water is a better alternative to landfill sites which are not reusable?I really dont know enough about it to start venting my opinions,i am at the beginning of the re-usable journey really and just havent come accross much support for it locally, perhaps its the fear of the unknown that puts people off,i am 25 and all my friends that are around my age are digusted by the idea as it would prove much more hands on and have no interest in changing bumps nappy for me if i use re-usables,but my granny thinks its wonderful,as she has taken the time to look at my kushies broucure and is amazed at how similar to disposables they have become eg just as easy to use!
It is also becomming more popular on tv and magazines so maybe the next generation will be more likely to use them.
Ivan,i know what you mean about our councils being different and having different obsticles here than the mainland, but they seem to get confussed about whats important, they do work for us after all!I have recently fought-and won-to have our local park cleaned up and have the broken equipment replaced and a gate put on to stop little ones running onto a very busy road.It was such a fight,as it is obvious land like that, public spaces, have become much more valuable as development land to my particular council!!but thats another thread for a later date, cant get my blood pressure up coz of the baby, lol.it takes more energy

But the point is that hose were things important to you (and well done by the way). However, teenagers want somewhere they can kick a football, a basketball hoop, somewhere to hang out without being called louts .... your age group are more concerned with their young ones ... others want somewhere that they can walk the dogs with loads of bins that they can put the by products of under digested pedigree chum into .... old age pensioners want better street lighting and good policing so that they are safe .. they want insulation for their houses, burglar alarms, smoke detectors etc.
While, in principle, it seems like a good idea you have to take into acount the hundreds of other ideas and calls on public money. It is often the person who shouts the loudest who gets their way ... especially if they get a few dodgy journalists to cover it. We can't keep demanding more and more services and then complain about the cost of taxation.
By all means do something positive, by using reusable nappies you will automatically save yourself hundreds of pounds ... the original outlay (which according to other postings on this site is much less than £250) does not need to be funded from the public purse though.
ivanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
I have to agree with Ivan in general here. Recently No Waste Like Home on BBC2 showed how they recycle disposable nappies in Holland. A friend asked why we couldn't do that here. I thought that attitude really highlighted the issue of waste management. We think that we can do what we like and the government will clean up after us - and they do! So it doesn't matter if we fill the bins with dirty nappies or fill the water treatment plants wth our babies' excrement, the gov sorts it out.
We should be forced to take responsibility for the way we live - bin tags are a good idea. I would also approve of water meters if I didn't think the gov were going to privatise the water service!Stercus accidit0
