I don't understand my electricity bill, can anyone help?

I was with edf ( for donkey's years ) and early this year decided to switch to save money. I went through all the comparison sites and British Gas came out cheapest, so I switched. It was to Click Energy 5. I chose paper quarterly bills with no direct debit ( on all comparison sites ).
The welcome letter from B Gas said 'you've chosen to pay quarterly by cash or cheque ( please refer to quarterly cash/cheque prices overleaf)'. This is correct. But the overleaf they refer to says :
Payment Method - Quarterly cash/cheque
Tier 1 Rate Pence per KWh First 125 KWh per quarter - n/a
Tier 2 Rate Pence per KWh Remaining KWh per quarter - n/a
Payment Method - Monthly direct debit
Tier 1 Rate Pence per KWh First 125 KWh per quarter - 13.593
Tier 2 Rate Pence per KWh Remaining KWh per quarter - 9.228
First bill from B Gas now received but it's MORE expensive than edf !!
Closing bill from edf :
Elec used 28 feb 08 to 17 Apr 08
first 121 @ 16.130p
next 549 @ 10.960p
B. Gas
17 Apr 08 to 4 June 08
first 67 kWh at 16.617p
next 407 kWh at 10.919p
The B Gas prices bear no resemblence to the prices on the welcome letter ( but they related to d/d payment, no price for qtrly chq pymt ). They are higher than the old Edf prices ! Is this all just because prices have gone up ?? I just assumed my first B Gas bill would show lower unit cost than previous more expensive Edf bill ?
I'm a bit lost - any thoughts appreciated.

I've just phoned B Gas asking about the Click Energy 5 rates and I'm even more confused !!
Rates for elec only - qtrly pay by chq (no diff to price ) for my postcode :
First 125 @ 18.576p
Next @ 8.944p
Totally different - what's going on ?0 -
I don't trust any of these companies (comparison or utility) but would recommend that you always pay by d/d as this gives you a discount. I would certainly query the matter as if they quoted you a price in your welcome letter then surely they should stand by that or else inform you of price increases. I have found that sometimes with these big companies one hand doesn't know what the other is doing! Good luck!0

If you still getting 3 monthly bills via paper, and are not paying via DD you are not on click 5. click 5 is a online account which means DD payments online (paperless bills) and payments via DD.0

Help - I'm panicing.
I've phoned B Gas about this account and they've said I'm on Click 1. They will transfer me to Click 5 today but only from today. I told them I signed up for Click 5 but ????.
I KNEW this was going to happen - see my post below :
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=805689
And now I can't find the 'welcome letter' but I as posted above it didn't spell out Click 5 anyway - what a dog's bloody dinner right from the get-go. I even called them up to query it and got no-where - I had no customer reference at the time - aarrggh
Any suggestions now ?0 -
Ok, panic over - I'm just trying to work out solution. I think I've worked out what happened.
Problem seems to stem from moneysupermarket. When you fill in your details, usage etc - it asks if you want quarterly paper billing and if you want to pay by d/d or cheque. I said quarterly paper & cheque. It then produced the results, B Gas Click 5 - and over on right said click on this box if you want to proceed which takes you to B Gas etc etc. So I assumed this was the product I was 'buying'. However, Click 5 isn't compatible with paper and cheque so B Gas put me onto Click 1 instead.
Ok, does anyone know if I'm tied into a 12 month contract on Click 1? I know I wouldn't be on Click 5 ( which was part of the reason for going with it ) but then I've haven't gone with it apparently.
I am really very p****d off with moneysupermarket.0 -
No, With Click 5 you are not in a 12 month contract.0

No, With Click 5 you are not in a 12 month contract.
I know - but apparently I was signed up to Click 1 ( although I thought I signed up to Click 5 ) so it's the Click 1 contract I need to get out of.
I've obviously heard all the talk of this 40% energy price hike and wondered if I should 'fix', but couldn't be bothered as I've only just moved. But since this mess and being on the wrong tariff anyway, I might as well just move again to a 'fix' - if I'm not locked into this Click 1 contract.0 -
