I can assure you that this is quite normal. Not the most reassuring thing to happen, for sure. It surprised me just how hot they became, but I've had two separate XBOX 360 consoles, and I've noted that the discs are often quite hot if I edject them after a few hours' play.

    Hope this helps,

Unfortunately this is a quite common occurrence and is not normally a problem but do make sure that the console is always well ventilated in use, ie not in a closed TV cabinet and any disks that become badly scratched are not used as they can explode in the drive.

"explode in the drive." Really!! Why is that?

A damaged CD/DVD can certainly shatter if it gets too hot, but I think "explode" is a bit strong. lol

Yeah it's perfectly normal and nothing to worry about. Everything about the 360 gets hot, that's why a lot of them fail eventually.

if it is a xbox360 you really need to buy one of the fan attachments that fit on the back....makes a huge difference to the heat!!! and will make the xbox last alot longer....the last thing you want are the red ring of death!!!

or just chuck it in the bin and buy a PS3 they are much better hehe

They're not worth it, the extra strain they put on the PSU to power the fans negates any difference that they'll make. You need to keep the 360 as ventilated as possible and keep the ambient temperature around it as low as you can, so don't keep the power brick next to it.

Plus, if it goes wrong then your warranty will be invalidated through not using licensed products so you'll be stuck up the creek.

MS has extended the warranty on Xbox's for heat issues to 3 years, hardly worth jepardising that..

i woudlnt get one of them fan attachments, as long the 360 is in an area where theres a circulation of air then you should be ok, i havet got a fan attachment and my 360 is fine

Our boys were using theirs on the carpet, with it sinking in the pile it was blocking the vents underneath making it overheat, they use it now in the upright position, hope there isn't a problem using it this way.
