Clicking noise
Options
Hi all
Dont know if anyone has any ideas but i have a clicking noise on the drivers side of my C5 estate, at first i thought there was a stone or a nail in the tyre but have checked them out and nothing. It seems to be coming from the tyre area as the noise speeds up and slows down with the car it is quite noisy.
many thanks

Sounds like it could be a wheel bearing or CV joint, it needs to be checked out.0

Does it happen when you're turning one direction, but not in the other - might be a wheel bearing on the way out.
If you can get a male friend to jack up the car and move the tyre in the hor then virtical,
if there is any movement then may be a sign the bearing is on the way out

Hi All
Many thanks for the replies.
The noise only happens when going forward not reverse and speeds up as we go along hence the thought nail/stone in tyre not to sure if it carries on when turning . We have just had the brake pads done would they not have seen it then?0 -
i have this i took it to a garage yest to look at they say something in the catalac converter (spell check, sorry:rolleyes: ) has come away and is ratteling about,
they said not to replace it as its quite common and my immissions are fine
and apart from that there is nothing wrong with it
only i have only just brought the car second hand and it seemed to start the day after i brought it and its driving me nuts
may not be the same as your bit if it helps ...Z2009 wins 14k :)2010 wins 26k:)

Hi
I had similar noise once before and despite of checking the tyres 3 times, it was only the fourth time when I found half a screw embeded in the tyre because it was 2mm visible inspite of running my hand all over that tyre 3 times.
Let us know how you get on.Be nice, life is too short to be anything else.0 -
Maybe swap the front wheels over, see if the noise follows the wheel0

Could be a good idea to take it to a garage, I am sure they can tell you what is wrong, it sure beats speculation.Genie

Morning all
just a quick update OH took the wheel off as advised and found that one of the bolts was missing from the brakes causing the caliper to rub on one of the balancing weights which is attatched to the inside of the wheel thus making the clicking noise have bought a new bolt for a couple of pounds and the noise has now gone and saved us from being ripped off by local main dealer (who tried to charge us £125 for brake pads went to a car parts place that specalises in German,Swedish and French cars and paid £68 for front and rear both prices without fitting) so many thanks to all for their advice.0 -

That’s slightly scary, has anyone had the brakes apart?
I’d certainly check both sides to make sure the bolts are tightened to the correct torque and make sure the replacement bolt is the correct quality as well normally caliper bolts are very high tensile (i.e. more than the standard 8.8 high tensile).
In fact, given that the bolt that didn’t fall out has been carrying twice it’s normal load I’d be tempted to change both.0 -
