I need to pay €125 to ABN in Amsterdam. My bank Nationwide wants to charge me £20

How do they want this payment? If by cheque, surely you could just send a cheque for the equivalent amount in pounds (plus £2/3 in case they want to question the exchange rate).0

Can you give them your debit or credit card details so that they charge you from their side?0

Send them the cash in a registered envelope - cost you about £4 by Royal Mail International signed for with insurance - just use a sturdy envelope. I do thsi all the time for foreign purchases from eBay.
If you are worried about them wanting Euros - Thomson Travel in Barnsley are offering Euros at 1.50 to the £ commission free - may be a national promotion.
