cheapest microsoft office

Hi, I'm on the hunt for cheap microsoft office software but am not wanting to pay full price if possible as I am a cheapskate ;) I have windows xp on my laptop but borrowed the office software from a friend the last time I needed it. Twice the software has corrupted according to the laptop fixer man so this time I am not taking any chances with dodgy software and hope to find a bargain.

I found a site that claims to be affiliated to microsoft but don't know if it is legit. Has anyone used it? It all sounds a bit too good to be true as it comes up high on the rankings when searching for MS office. Thanks.

    It's excellent and free.

    Are you a student?

That site you mentioned seems to be linked from:
    http://www.microsoft.com/uk/education/buy/licensing/buying.mspx
So my guess is that its genuine.

I am not a student but it said you don't need a student card to use the site which set off alarm bells about why I hadn't heard of it before and why everyone doesn't get it for the really cheap price.

I was in the process of downloading a free 60 day trial to tide me over but everything crashed as I was doing too much at once so will give that a shot again tomorrow until I get a plan in place.

if you go to the google homepage and click on the " more " options > documents
it gives you an online word processor - spreadsheets etc that can be accessed from any pc - all documents can be saved online - you just need to set up an account which is free

Yup, it's definitely legit. I've bought from there myself. You need to be a student or a parent of someone at school or college. My son's at primary school and I got a perfectly legal copy of MS Office for about £35.

The Basement at RM.com is worth a look, too.
