Anyone had luck using Avis code recently?

Hi all, I have spent hours reading and checking car hire codes, i have found that one of the Avis ones still give a discount A153700, but some of the advice is not to use it as it is a staff discount code and you may be asked for ID.
Just wondered if anyone has used a code recently and had hassle, also someone advised to use avis.com as you dont have to pay in advance, but I can't find what insurance cover is included (Comp or 3rd party). I already have insurance4carhie but would still like fully comp insurance.
Any advice appreciated
Thank-you

Hi Shellyd,
Having worked in car hire for last seven years that code you are using is an AWD (avis worldwide discount) think it is a staff discount code if I remember and wouldn't advise you to use it ... The website offers discounts cheaper if you pay UPFRONT first which can be great but usually arent transferrable if your plans change and you also cant retrieve your money back .. Mostly car hire is sold with standard CDW (collision damage waiver) meaning you have an excess to pay should anything happen to the vehicle (regardless of fault) sooooo .. if someone knocks off the wing mirror but you get the other drivers details, you would still be charged initally, but then your hire company would try to recover the costs from the other driver, however this is very lengthy and not always successful... so the other alternative is to reduce your excess down , which of course costs extra per day , think its about £13.00 per day, however when I worked there that would give you a second driver free of charge and also drop your excess to £100.00 . The insurance policy you have with insurance for car hire should be perfectly suitable so you shouldnt need to purchase any extra at the Avis rental location, however, check your small print on your insurance , but in my experience your policy will mean that should anything happen to the vehicle, then the hire company would charge you initally and you would recover the charges from insurance4carhire, which is very quick and easy to do ... dont buy something you dont need, sounds to me like you are covered with the insurance you already have cdw is fine alongside your insurance4carhire. If you arent sure call them (not the hire company) and they will explain all... Just a word of advice , do some shopping around like moneysupermarket.com etc...

Well I used an AWD code last year (D005927 "The National Association of Bancruptcy Trustees") and I managed to get a good discount and was not asked for any ID other than my passport.
I have just tried this code again for a rental I want to make in Marseille in August, and it still works. However the discount is not as great as the one you offer here shellyd.
Where did you find this code and why do you think it is a staff discount?
Do Avis always check ID's at all airports?
And why is France a whole lot dearer than anywhere else to rent a car?????0 -
Hi jtcg, i searched and tried all codes i could find, I found this code here

I also joined the BA club the discount is not as good, do you spain is the next best for me, but the petrol policy is full to empty but i wanted to avoid this this year.
Hope this helps

Ps I found B999000 is even better, got this from google, looks like I have wasted a lot of time, because I'm scared to use them incase I get stopped.0 -
Hi
Looking to hire an Avis car for about 2-weeks in South Africa (in December).
Does anyone know of any promo / discount codes?
Also any general tips on hiring cars - I only hired a car once before and went in blind.
Many thanks for the help.0 -
A153700
I've used this code three times in the last 2 years, at Nice airport twice (2006 and 2007), no problems and at Ibiza airport this year again no problems (lady commented and said this price would normally be for 3 days, I just smiled at her and shrugged shoulders). My father (Nice), sister in law (Paris, Charles de Gaulle) have both used this code all with no problems, the only thing that makes you worry is that you don't have to pay anything until you get back home from your holiday when you get the receipt.0 -
This code A153700 does work, have used it twice in the last 6 months, and it seems to work fine. Used in at Rome Airport twice, no problems at all.Hi all, I have spent hours reading and checking car hire codes, i have found that one of the Avis ones still give a discount A153700, but some of the advice is not to use it as it is a staff discount code and you may be asked for ID.

I have used various codes over the years - including the bancrupcy trustees one - without problems. However, I also always go through avis.com rather than avis.co.uk as the prices are usually a lot better and you make the reservation then pay on arrival (ie if you find a cheaper rate you can cancel). I have not had a problem yet - the car or a better one is always there, and I have never been questioned about codes.
It might be worth signing up for Avis preferred - that way there is less paper work to complete when you arrive so less chance of id being asked for. I would be nervous about using the staff code though (and would make a back up reservation with another company just in case it was not accepted)
forgot to say that on a trip to USA recently it including all the necessary insurances for the USA - I would double check excesses though.0 -
W300012 gives a bigger discount0
