Incorrect entry on Experian credit file

Long story, but I recently obtained a copy of my Experian credit file just out of interest (had no problems with gaining credit anywhere - it was just curiosity), there was an entry from Vodafone Communications saying that I had a default of £120 from back in 2000.
Now the strange thing is that I have had various Vodafone accounts since then and had no problems (you would think that if I did owe Vodafone some money then then wouldn't let me have any more accounts till I settled what was due ?). So I called Vodafone - spoke to some helpful people who both confirmed that my accounts were clear & had a nil balance, and that the entry must be incorrect (their words). So they sent an internal email off to "Quality Assurance" to look further and hopefully get the matter rectified. This can apparently take 5 - 7 days ... I also went into my local Vodafone store who also checked on their system and confirmed the same. Maybe mistaken identity on their part perhaps ? Maybe somebody else with the same name owes them £120 ??
In the meantime I spoke to the Experian helpdesk and they advised that once they receive the request it takes a further 48 hours to process & update the credit report.
So - at least Vodafone are doing something about it - don't get me wrong if I owe them money then I will pay it .... but surely there should be a complaints system that can deal with this more promptly ??? Also do you think some compensation from Vodafone would be in order (seeing as they have stated something incorrect about me that could have messed up my credit rating ?).
Cheers

Absolutely if they are wrong you can sue if they have wrongly damaged your credibility or good name, you also can make a complaint to The Information Commissioners Office.0

You have complained to Vodafone and by your own admission, they have been very helpfull. Great! But let them try and see if they can sort it for you before you take it further, it may be as you said a case of mistaken identity, mistaked do happen.
It's been on your file for 5 years, another 5-7 days isn't going to make uch diference.
Compensation? WHY? again, by your own admission, you have had no problems gaining credit and even Vodafone have accepted you a number of times since!
So, because Vodafone is a large company, you think they shoud give you money for an honest mistake? If you have had no problem with credit then it obviously has had no adverse effect on you at all.
I wouldn't pay you a penny
