Young Persons Account

I'm trying to find out about current accounts that provide a cashcard for my son aged 13 but cant find anything specific on this site. If there is anything, please would someone direct me to it?

My elder son opened a Halifax account when he was about this age (5 years ago) and received a free Game Boy; is there anything like that out there now does anyone know?

Thanks in advance

Christine

HSBC do a Livecash card, which is literally just a cash card, not a debit card and this changes automatically to a debit card when they turn 15. I had this when i was a teenager and it was really easy to use. thier freebies arent brill but hsbc are really on the ball, automatically change accounts at certain ages, give out the forms for student accounts when they turn 18 etc etc

I think 16 is the ususal age limit for getting a real debit card (and 18 to get an overdraft). There should be plenty of nice kids accounts around though.
  • Halifax gives a debit card and a high interest rate on their young persons account, my sis has one and she has no complaints at all

  • The Natwest do a Cashcard (solo) for 13+ iirc

Actually from 11, or it was when my sons were 11. Don't remember any freebies.

My teenage son has a barclays 'barclay plus account' this pays a good rate of interest and he has a full debit card that he can use in shops rather than just getting cash out of a cash dispenser. No free gifts though.
Also the Nationwide smart account will give a cash card but not a debit card this also pays a good interest rate.
