Ema - what counts as income

I am just about to apply for an EMA for my dd who is 16. Does anyone know what counts as income?

Do I declare my income net of pensions (I am making quite a hefty pension contribution) ?

Does child support from her dad count as income? It is not counted for tax credit purposes.

I'm pretty sure that any child support payments are disregarded as they don't form part of you're household income.

EMA is judged by gross annual income.

I don't think Pension Contributions are seen as part of your income. However, if you retired next year and started recieving pension payments from it, then that IS classed as income.

    Hi,

It seems to be based on the gross household income - have a look here and see if it gives sufficient information: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Parents/Schoolslearninganddevelopment/Optionsafterschool/DG_067577

If not, the school should be able to put you in touch with Connexions, who should be able to answer your questions, I believe.
