Loft clearing

Hi,
My mum has indicated that she wants her loft clearing and it hasn't ever been done. She has lived in the house for 30+ years and a lot of my toys etc (e.g.) have been put up there from when I was little.
Basically I just wanted to know because I don't want to throw anything out that could be of value, how do I go about getting things assessed for value and sold should they look that they might be worth something.
A lot of it will be old carpets for throwing out, don't ask why they are up there but I also know there are old cameras up there aswell dating back to the 60's/70's.
Very grateful for any advice.
thanks
Caz

I'd get rid of the obvious rubbish first and then see what you've got left.
It may then be worth keeping an eye on the local auctioneers to see if they have any specialist days coming up - e.g. a photographic equipment day when they get an expert in that field in to value things. These days the internet is your friend - you can usually find a specialist dealer in most things, and most will be happy to give a valuation. However the advantage of the auctioneers is that they are not actually buying the stuff so have no incentive to undervalue in order to part you with it for less than its true value.
Toys that are in reasonable condition can be collectible as can old cameras - worn carpets probably don't have much value although if you put them on freecycle you might find someone will take them if they are clearing a patch of ground as it helps to suppress weeds - at least it saves you lugging them to the tip even though you won't get any money for them.Adventure before Dementia!0 -
Ebay is your friend....not just to sell but for finding out what things are worth.
