council tax arrears

Hi all. This is the first time ive posted so be gentle lol. Just need some advice on old council tax arrears dating between !993-97. Just received a letter from dundee city council(scotland) demanding repayment for these years. Not a worrying amount, I always knew it would catch up with me one day, but i heard from somewhere that after 5 or 6 years this would be written off. Thats the first time ive heard from them in 11 years. Is this true? Can i challenge this or is the best bet jjust to pay it? Any advice would be much appreciated . Thankyou..R

    Hi

Im not 100% sure (George is a whizz at things like this) but im not sure that that relates to something like Council Tax. I would suggest just paying it, but maybe wait until you get a couple more responses.

    Wot she says :D

The other part to this is that since it is more than 6 years, a Libility Order cannot be obtained from the court (which would allow them to deduct from your wages).

I'd write to the council to arrange a repayment plan as this is a priority debt. They are usually quite quick to take things to court.
