A dirty Halifax trick...

Last week I called my bank (Halifax) to close my account as I have paid off the overdraft and I want nothing more to do with them (l-o-n-g story). They sent me an account closure form (letter dated 13 June, received 17 June) which I completed and returned to the nearest branch yesterday.
While I was there I asked guy who dealt with my request for a receipt to say that they had indeed received my card and form. After a bit of argument I got my way, but not before he offered me my card back. This is after the person on the phone said I had to return it - very strange.
Today I have had a letter (dated 16 June) telling me that they have been unable to close my account due to insufficient information and would I please complete the enclosed form and return it to them asap. The form they have enclosed is three times as long as the closure form, it is an account application form!
Why do I feel like I am being tricked...? Has anyone else had this?

Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.

I would phone them up and ask them what they're playing at.0

Also tell them that you are making a formal complaint and if they don't close your account you will have no choice but to contact the finanicial ombudsman. If they then refuse to close it in a week send them a letter giving stating the same information and escalate it.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I think the account has actually been closed as the bloke I spoke to in the branch confirmed as much when i handed in the form and the card, but I not amused that they seem to be trying to trick me in to filling out a form to open an account.
Come to think of it, after all the grief they gave me with the account, maybe I will call and give them a piece of my mind...Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0 -
Just called to make sure it has been closed. Told the person I spoke to that I felt like I was being tricked into opening an account. Apparently it was a computer error. Yeah, right...Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0
