TV license by credit card

Looks like you can now pay for this by credit card [must phone an 0870 number though - so best done at the w/e]. Has any one any experience of doing this? I presume there is no difference in the cost?

Thanks

EDIT 07/10: Thanks for all your observations below. These have been very infomative - shame I didn't notice this facilty before. Let's hope lots of moneysavers will now use this option.

There is a way to pay online by debit/mastercard/visa here.

Thanks JB. I'd just gone there and found it myself.

According to SayNoto0870.com there is also a free number corresponding to their 0870 242 4567 number, which is: 0800 551550.

I always pay by card as it is not reccuring and the 1% cashback is always nice to have...

I paid on-line last year with a Visa CC, was pretty painless (apart from having to pay the CC bill....) unfortunately due again end of this month...

ps - no difference in cost when paying by card.

Am I right in thinking that when you pay by DD they take 6 months worth of money in advance?

Have all MSE's taken the sensible option and just paid annually? To me it doesn't make any sense to give someone else my money 6 months in advance, I could put it away into my own savings account in advance and make the interest on it no matter how feeble the amount would be!

Yes, it's 6 months before, 6 months after - don;t think there would be a great deal of difference as you lose the interest on the 'before' payments, but gain on the 'after's.
  • My mother used to pay her tv licence by Barclaycard (in full once a year) but a couple of years ago they wrote to her to say that they could no longer process a credit card payment due to costs.
Obviously they have changed the rules once again but my mother won't have to worry as she's 75 on Sunday!
  • I have paid my TV licence online with a credit card for the past 4 years!
  • My mum paid her bill through a continious authority on her Barclaycard, until they told her that they would not accept it again.
