28 Days notice period to switch

Hi,

I'm looking to switch my fuel to capped with an alternative supplier to my current (npower).

I have just read in the T&Cs that I must give them 28 days notice of my intention to switch (I've also just read this in the Scottish Power T&Cs as I was just about to switch online).

Does anyone know how necssary this is? As when I switched from BG to npower I wasn't aware of any 28 days notice period and was never questionned/ penalised by BG about it!

If this is a necessary pain, what is the best procedure? Advise npower in writing and then ask Scottish Power to take on my account in 28 days?

Any advice would be gratefuly received!

When you sign up for new supplier(Scottish Power) will notify your current supplier(Npower), the process of switching generally takes between 4 - 6 weeks allowing the 28 days notice to be served.
