usb for camera saying safely remove hardware

I have for months been having problems with my usb card reader for my camera it used to work fine simply put card from my camera into usb and uploaded my photos. Now it takes me forever as keep getting little green icon which says safely remove hardware I eventually after keep putting my camera card in usb get to upload but this is driving me mad what has or is causing this can anyone help????

That icon is supposed to be there as it makes sure any data to be written to the card is flushed before removing it.0
