HI
can any one help me ?
I can log off my computer however when iI click on the icon to shut down a screen appears saying windows is shutting down, however it never does. The only way I can log on or turn it off is by pushing the button on the front of the computer. According to my son I should not be doing so.
I am sorry if this is a bit vague but techie stuff is a bit beond me
regards to all

Most useful post taken from the FAQ's (in my humble opinion!)Figment wrote:This is most probably caused by a recently installed piece of software which is not releasing itself from memory on shutdown in a timely fashion. (By default Windows has a time limit of x seconds for applications to close - if one takes more than this it can stop responding. Sometimes it will recover, other times will hang.
Instead of shutting down from the start button, hold down CRLT-ALT-DEL together which opens the Task Manager. Then click on shutdown and then flick between Applications and Processes - you will see the various items disappear as they each close. Look for any that change to "Not Responding"; - if you see one or more, this is the likely cause.
Uninstall and reinstall the affected program.
If that doesn't work, press Ctr-Alt-Del, see what's still running. Manually close one program and shut down. By working through the list you should be able to work out which program is causing windows to hang. Again uninstall and reinstall the affected program.Money can't buy you happiness, but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery.
