Has anyone's PS3 developed a fault? Can you get a repair as well as swap from Sony?

Hi all,

My PS3 has developed a fault and won't load any discs. Phoned up the careline and they said they can get another one to me (its a refurbished one which is essentially like a brand new one) but i asked for a repair and he said i'll just get another to you.

Whne my PS2 broke down years ago the guy offered me a repair or a swap then so i don't know why he didnt offer it this time. Has anyone else been able to get a repair for their PS3.

Thanks,
Abbas

Hey there, my friend got a replacement too, normally, if I am correct, when you swap yours, you are given a repaired ps3, a ps3 that has had a problem and has been sent back to be swapped form another person, so you will be getting a fixed up ps3.
Your broken ps3 will probably go to another person as a swap!!

They do this, so it saves waiting times on people getting their ps3's back and also means they won't get hassled for it taking too long to come back!

    Hope that clears things up!

    Thanks.

I would rather get it repaired since i've only had it 5 months and getting a refurbished one feels a bit crappy but repair takes up to 8 weeks!

Anyway, i bought it from M&S who give a 2 year warranty with it, will swapping it affect this warranty?

Take it back to M&S and get a brand new replacement ,should last longer than 5 months:eek: ,I would'nt like my 5mth old machine swapped for a refurb. Cant see it affecting the warranty if you get a new one.

    Hi,

I bought it online and you do get a 2 year M and S warranty on all technology items . Phoned their technology line today and they asked me for the parcel summary (receipt basically) which i have lost. They told me to contact Sony as this is what they guide you to do even if you have the receipt.

I read the T+C's of their warranty and it says if it goes faulty within 90 days they'll replace it, after that they'll try and get it repaired and its been 5 months.

I think they are trying to dodge their legal responsibility since its been bought online, i have the order code and all the details are stored in 'My Account' plus they acknowledge i bought it from them.

I only bought it in January so i really don't want a refurbished one. I'm planning to contact them again reminding of them of their responsibility under the Sale of Goods Act but is there anything else i should mention?

    Thanks,

    Abbas
