Was late on payment now lost my 0% interest?!

I rec ently transfered just over £2000 onto an Alliance & Leicester 0% interest free card until next year but as I was late on a payment last month they have now charged me over £35 interest! I am gutted - it cost me to transfer and I am a stay at home Mum with little cash and just wanted to stick this on 0% and pay the min. Is this the norm? as I am going to have to move it again! and it will cost me again!! I hate the banks - they never tell you these little things

They tell you quite clearly (in condition 2c of your T&C's) what will happen if you breach your agreement.

Ring them up (customer loyalty: 0800 783 1116), and plead insanity, stupidity, forgetfulness, whatever you like. Be polite, apologetic (don't tell them you hate them!), even grovel, and ask to set up a minimum payment direct debit so you don't miss any more payments.

Ask if they could PLEASE put you back on the 0% rate since it's your first offence (is it?), but don't be greedy and ask for the £12 late payment back as well.

    Good luck!

You should hate yourself for being so stupid and no good blaming the banks for your total carelessness.

Anway give them a ring and advise them it was an oversight and you are will to set up a DD. As this is the first they will probably reinstate the promotional rate.

I think this subject is broached just about everyday ! Maybe it should made a sticky !!

If you take a look at all the other threads on this same subject you'l probably find that about 70% of those (reported here) who break their agreements do actually get them reinstated, but that will depend on your relationship with the card companies and whether you have a history of late payments/broken agreements etc.
  • ...and being nice to the other person on the phone greatly increases your chances of getting your promotion reinstated. No good ringing up and having a go at someone else about YOUR own mistake ... especially NOT GOOD if you try to blame your cc company. Adopt a humble, apologetic approach and you'll find the A&L staff more than happy to comply with your request to reinstate. I hope...!

being calm and polite doesn't hurt or cost anything...a bit of humble pie now and again tastes good....

    good luck
