Capitalone Credit Card

Options
I was approved for a 0%transfer0%purchase until Sept. 09. When I received the agreement it was for 4% cashback. I got in touch and they said I must have filled in the wrong form on line - I didn't. So they cancelled this application and I completed another form. The next agreement I received was 0%trans0%purchase until March 09. I contacted them again and they said it was correct on their screen and they would issue a new agreement. I hadn't heard so I phoned again today to be told that there was something wrong with their system, they were checking into legal aspects and would be back in touch sometime - no idea given!!! This doesn't only apply to me. I think they are stalling and when I eventually get my card of course the 0%,0% will be much less. This leaves me unable to apply for another card although this the best available for me. Any suggestions as to what can be done or who I can contact. They tell me the only course of action is complaints procedure I don't want to do this as I is lengthy and will probably delay the issue of my card if I am going to get one. I also suspect that before I get my card they will withdraw the offer. Help!!!

thanks.

Like you I applied for this card. As far as I am aware I have a v. good credit rating. They said they would look at my application online. A few days later I received a letter telling me the I had been approved for their 6 months 0% card.
I do not want this card and did not apply for it, I am not gong to sign the agreement.
The only CC co. that has refused to give me any card I have applied for is Capital One. So I will never apply for any of their products again.

Capital One has the habit of doing this one. Last year I've applied online as well for their 0% BT card and few days later credit agreement arrived for 6 mos 0% purchases. I've cancelled and didn't go ahead with it.

Capital One are noted to be a harsh credit scorer and would suggest that probably best to apply by phone so that you know what card you're getting.

Same happened to me applied for the Sept 2009 got the March 2009.

Eventually correct forms arrived. Got to be done.
  • I too applied for a particular 0% offer and got accepted for a different one over fewer months with a £2,500 credit limit.

I phoned C*apital One and asked if instead of their offer I could have a blanace transfer deal instead. Their guy said I would have to withdraw my current application and make a new one.

Did that .. and got refused!

I did appeal, which got refused. Their guy said different deals have different criteria as to what credit rating is needed. But nobody knows what they are apart from the "analysts" who don't tell anyone .. even C*apital One's customer services people.

Checked my Experian report and there are about eight C*apital One searches on there now, which won't do my chances any good of getting a card elsewhere!

Yep I applied for the O% and when the forms came it was the 3% charged BT. Rang and complained and they said their website must have made a mistake. (????) Asked for the right application, and asked for confirmation there wouldn't be another credit search (in the middle of renewing mortgage at the time, so didn't want too many searches on there).

New forms came, same as above. Rang again to find same set of excuses. Refused to admit their mistake (or dubious dealings IMHO). Found they had done another credit check so not impressed.

Third set of forms arrived, still charged and not 0%. Same again, and they refused to extend the offer (originally 0% 6mths til August)

Gave up...will stick to Ulster :) who keep renewing every time I apply, even though its only been about two months after closing the old one!

I want to also add that Capital One conveniently lost my DD form, then took 3 months to process the second form, then put me on minimum payment even though I requested full payment and confirmed on the phone.

BE CAREFUL and ensure you pay by BACS the full amount BEFORE the due date!

It strikes me that Capital One are furtive in their actions and trying every trick to charge interest.

I've had 4 statements and still no DD setup.
  • I agree, and there's another post on here yesterday along similar lines. They're either not very conscientious in their attention to detail, (optimistic view of why a massive comopany should make errors) or there's another reason why people are applying for cards, and then finding they have been accepted for a different card which happens to have charges attached to it

    suspicious......;)

This lender operates a rate-for-risk policy (in common with Barclaycard and Citicards). This means that Cap One reserves the right to issue the credit card it deems most suitable from its range. In the worst cases you can be sent a totally different & unsuitable card, leaving you with a wasted search on your credit file.

Judging from posts to this board, this happens frequently, so it's important to consider first whether you meet the criteria listed on the C1 website (e.g. held a card for 5 years, a credit limit of at least £5,000 etc.) and if you’ve a realistic chance of being accepted.

IMO, this practice should be banned, but unfortunately we're stuck with it for the
    forseeable
