ID protection from barclaycard

i set up an ID protection policy with barclaycard in 2007.
i now have id protection through a bank (Lloydstsb) and have just recieved a statement from barclaycard with a £69.99 payment on it fro the ID protection policy for 2008.
i haven't recieved a letter of renewal, or been contacted by the. i called them and they said that the cancellation period 4 days befor my call, and that they posted me a letter in april.

please advise.

I would tell them quite firmly that you did not receive the renewal notification, you wish to cancel and quote this old chestnut at them - "proof of posting is not proof of delivery".

Unless anyone else has got any bright ideas, if they don't respond positively then it's the old Ombudsman route.

I do believe (but may be wrong) that legally you are not allowed to be insured twice for the same risk which you now effectively are. This is to prevent you claiming twice for the same thing. I know that it applies to car insurance, household insurance and such but unsure about this. Perhaps someone else has info on this?
  • I think you will find that when you bought ID protection with Barclaycard, the t&cs stated something along the lines "we will continue to renew your policy on an annual basis unless you instruct us otherwise"...in other words, the policy is renewed automatically on the anniversary of the date you purchased it, unless you tell them to cancel it.

It's probably the same with your Lloydstsb ID protection. Read the t&cs carefully. You only need 1 policy to be protected, so cancel the other.
